The year was 1976. There, in a historic building nestled next to the railroad tracks on 55th and State, a bright eyed Steve (Saz) Sazama would open the doors to the beloved Saz’s State House. Saz spent his days and nights slinging drinks at the neighborhood tavern around the unique “Round Bar”. Shortly after opening up shop, Saz added a limited menu at the State House which featured his own speciality BBQ sauce slathered on fall-off-the-bone baby back ribs.

Fast forward a few years to the Summer festival scene where Saz brought his famous ribs to hungry crowds. Wanting to add a delicious one-handed snack patrons could enjoy while strolling through the festival grounds, without having to sacrifice their beers (this is Brew City afterall), the “cheese egg roll” was added to the roster. This hand-rolled cheesey deliciousness is the famous Saz’s Mozz Stick we all know and love today!

As any proud Milwaukeean knows, no event, anniversary, or milestone is too small to celebrate, which is why we’re celebrating our 44th anniversary this year! Beginning March 3, 2020, throughout the month of March on Mondays and Tuesdays (excluding St. Patrick’s Day), $19.76 will get you a half rack of our Award-Winning BBQ Baby Back Ribs, Sour Cream & Chive Fries, two Festival-Famous Mozzarella Sticks with Marinara, and a 14oz. Miller Lite or soft drink. Come down to Saz’s State House and help us party like it’s 1976!
